This project speculated on the design of a center for experimental digital fabrication on an extremely small plot located outside of the flood protection levee of an industrial distric of Richmond, Virginia. Creative, expressive structural ideas were explored as a response to an “impossible” combination of site and program. A modular system was proposed that combined pre-fabricated classroom and living units with a sculptural superstructure that provided infrastructure, circulation and physical seperation from the floodwaters, streets, and busy transit infrastructure of the city below. Special emphasis was placed on design through model building, as well as the preparation of drawings and visualization using Revit.
