This work investigated a novel method for the production of thin shell objects with a robotically actuated polyhedral mould. Capitalizing on the complex 3D motion paths achievable by an industrial robot arm, fluid material is spread around the interior of the mould by gravity as the mould is turned and manipulated by the robot. As a result, solid or open shell elements are produced with controllable openings, thinly covered areas, and thickly reinforced panels.
